Tadpole Troopers

Join the lab and become a Tadpole Trooper! We involve Dawson College students in all aspects of research, and all research projects. We meet every 2 weeks for training, workshops, and career building exercises. Entry level positions are hard to come by in ecology, often involving a lot of money, long times away, or previous experience. We aim to bridge that gap, and offer ecology for all.

What we offer:

Hands on training

We offer hands on research experience. You don't need prior experience, and we will train you with skills necessary in ecology, and any kind of science. We work with animals and water samples in the field, specimens in the lab, and data and literature on the computer. Learn how every step of a scientific project works.

Networking and career tips

We give you skills, and then teach you how to showcase them! We have CV workshops, guest presentations from diverse biologists, and highlight relevant opportunities in ecology as they arise.

Presentations and CEs

Want to present the research you are doing at Science Fest? Want to do a CE project about amphibians? You can do that with us, we love supervising projects! You can get training on how to write a paper, make an infographic, make a scientific poster, do a scientific presentation, which are all useful skills in a science career.

How to join

Become a Tadpole Trooper! We recruit for field work during the first week of the winter semester, and recruit for data analysis (don't worry, we'll still go look for some critters) during the first week of the Fall semester. We have summer opportunities as well!

We'll announce on our social media when recruitment begins, but you can always email Dr. Jess (jford@dawsoncollege.qc.ca) to find out more about opportunities.

We do not recruit based on R score or prior experience, we recruit based on you passion and dedication. If you love ecology, conservation, and, of course, frogs, apply to the FAB TADS!

Our Tadpole Troopers

Our research wouldn't be possible without our dedicated team of volunteers!
